Microscopic success

I guess even small victories have to be celebrated. My bio-concrete experiment is moving extremely slowly, but it is moving. On a microscopic scale, to be precise. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding things that are so small I cannot see or touch them, but luckily we have instruments that go a long way in helping us. Below is a microscopic image showing calcite bridges that were formed by bacteria between grains of sand.

This visual evidence gives me and my lab partner something to build on, because more often than not our hard work has literally crumbled between our fingers.
